Unhappy "Chip guard" on hood - How to remove old adhesive?

Need to remove this ugly adhesive that was used to to paste on the chip guard
2014 Silverado purchased used from a dealer back in 2016. When I bought it, the dealer pointed out the "chip guard" along the first 6" to 8" of the hood. It's like a thick cellophane strip that was applied with some type of adhesive. Unsure if this was applied / installed at the factory, prior owner, or the dealer. Well, it is now rapidly tearing away leaving the exposed adhesive which now catches dirt/debris. I don't know anything about the adhesive but need to somehow get it removed with scratching or damaging the underlying paint. Anyone have any experience with this or suggestions on how to safely remove the adhesive?
