weird starting on my silverado
my clock constantly needs resetting when i start the vehicle, also the radio goes to an unsaved station.. more worriedly, with a good, new battery (as installed by the chevy dealer here in town), when i turn the key, it'll rarely click, only. sounds like the power is getting to the starter. then when i tried it again, it starts. once, it was so bad that i icoudnt even jump it when it really failed. dealer couldnt diagnose it, as it 'doesnt. t happen slow enough'. is it the HMI? some module. sounds suspiciously computer oriented.. any ideas?
Your radio problem sounds like a blown fuse. The starting problem sounds like a starter, solenoid or relay problem, but the dealer should have diagnosed that easily, so maybe it is something else??
I have had a similar issue. Mine a 2017 5.3 1500 LTZ was feeling a little sluggish starting a couple of months ago. I tested the original battery and it did test weak. So knowing winter is here and I have a plow, I decided to change out the battery. I also decided to add a second battery. After all was done and installed, the starter did not seem to be any better even with the combined CCA of both batteries. Yesterday I went out to put the plow on and all I got was a click. I checked voltages and all was good, 12.6+ volts. Got a second pair of hands and did the Tap The Starter trick with a hammer and it started right up. It then was able to start three more times. In an effort to eliminate any obvious issues, we check all connections bot that the batteries and the starter. everything looked good. We tried it again and no go. Just clicked. Gave it another tap with the hammer and started right up. This time I brought it to the dealer and dropped it off. We'll see what they find.
