Default 1998 cchevy astro van steering column replacement

i just got a 98 chevy astro given to me as a early christmas present. The thing started fine, but the one morning i got in it to start it and instead of it turning over to start, the key litterally kept turning. so i looked to see how much it would be to replace and decided it would be easier in the long run to just get a whole column from a junk vehicle seeing as how everyting on my current column was busted (found out it somebody tried stealing it once before.) I got a different column out of a 97 astro van, and everything matches up, but i am having a security issue. so i tried to have the system relearn just as its supposed to, but after hours of doing the same steps, i haven't gotten anywhere. so i decided to bypass the vats system, seemed relatively easy, but upon getting ready to do this i found that the column out of the 97 is a passkey1 system and the 98 is a passkey2 system. so i'm wondering if there is a way that i can get this system to work. bypass the cureent way and get it to work.
