Default 93 astro tranny slipping

My astro van has been struggling on the freeway and up really steep hills. Thetranny feels like it is slipping out of gear and is revving at a high rpm but there is no power! It is only happening some of the time after about 30 miles on the freeway orfrom a dead stop to try and climb a steep hill. Does this seem familiar to anyone? Does this sound likea transmission or the torque converter or something else I havn't thought of??

Default RE: 93 astro tranny slipping

We have assembled here today to honor the memory of Nate's transmission...

All kidding aside, it is worth changing the fluid and filter yourself to see if it gets any better. You'll also get to see how much metal shavings have accumulated on the pan magnet and if there are any large chunks of metal in the pan. Unfortunately, your clutches are most likely worn and slipping. Your options: 1. Factory refurbished (good warranty) 2. Low mileage unit from a reputable salvage yard with a replacement warranty (some even have a labor warranty) 3. Local tranny shop with good reputation

I've listed the options in the order I would prefer to try. I'd get the factory unit and put it in myself; but that's me.

Good luck!
