Per my post #2, the orange wires supply power to the switch. If the voltage on those wires were nowhere near the battery voltage, there would be no need to look downstream (no blue/white wire nor relay). The link astroturf posted seems worth pursuing. Pay close attention to the condition of the orange wires.

Sorry for the delay. I don't get in here as often as I would like. If I remember correctly, I got the plug at Rock Auto. After you get to your year and model, it's under "Electrical- Connector", then "Blower Motor Connector", even though it really connects to the resistor, not the motor. But find yours first and make sure that that is the problem. It will be obviously burnt or melted. Then, either make a mental note,or take a picture, and compare it to the picture in Rock Auto. Mine was in the $30.00 range.

As to why it didn't last more than it did, I'd just be making an educated guess. Voltage is (relatively) constant. The different speeds of the fan are controlled by the resistor(which, by nature, causes resistance). More resistance draws more current(amps), which, to a point, is okay. Things like switches and connectors are rated for only so much current. So in a perfect world, everything in the line should work fine. But then when something like the motor starts to get old, one thing it can do is to draw more current than it should. That's when the weakest link in the line will burn or melt. Yes, I should probably replace the fan motor. But I'm not even sure how it comes out. I wouldn't mind just digging in and tearing it apart, except for things like airbags. Technology and safety are good except for the home mechanic, and I'm pretty sure it comes out from the inside. And mine is now 12 years old, and I'm ready for a new(er) van.

Fan access is from the front. Follow the wires from the resistor. Cut the plastic cover with a razor blade, and wah lah.

Hi all,

Just an update, was not able to work on the car until yesterday for too many other "honey dos" on the list.
I checked the voltage on the orange wire and it does not have a reading I expected. I also looked at the post were the whole wire harrnes was removed and replaced all the wire. Nice job ... but I just didn't have that much time to spend after trying to remove the bundle from the door. I decided I should stop and just let this one go for now until I have a better reason (another reason) to go after the bundle and fix it.
So the plan for my next lesson is to go after the fan/blower hopefully this weekend.
Thank you all for your support and I'm sure I'll need more when I use this car as my "in the field" service guide.

99 Astro power lock problem

Did you ever resolve your driver's door lock issue?
I have exactly the same problem. I know it is not the switch as I swapped it out the the passenger side. The passenger side worked fine until I moved it to the driver's side where it no longer functioned. Conversely the driver's side switch now works fine on the passenger side. Hmmm.

What was your resolution.
