OK. I have an 03 ava with 5.3l a/c not working. It is not the compressor or clutch. I can hot wire the compressor through the relay. It works fine. Replaced controls twice to no avail. I have looked at wires under fuse box under hood. Wiggle tested for short. Nothing. Removed controls and wiggle tested there also. No work. Any ideas? Please help.

 

When you hotwirw the compressor does it make cold air? What do you mean exactly by "not working"

Thank you. it does get cold. It's like the controls inside are not sending the power to the relay.

 

So the comprsseor does not run/cycle when controls are set to do so?

Full disclosure I don't know much about a/c and is one of the items I sooner than later seek pro help for problems. On my '93 there was a sensor on the condensor, 2 wire plug (low pressure switch???) that went bad (on my 3rd one now). Same symptoms - could jump to run comperssor. Seems to me I could jump across the switch plug and a/c worked giving me the diagnosis, but that was years ago and my brain is old!
