2004 Z66 - Worth it?
Looking for a larger vehicle to do occasional travel (1-2 times a year) and camping/day trips 1 weekend a month. This will not be a daily driver or something that gets a ton of miles.
I was originally looking at Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban but came across this avalanche.
It's 4x2, Got 127K miles, and is super clean. Seller is asking $6000. The only thing that really concerns me is the Autocheck is showing 6 owners
and very limited maintenance records. It appears that the 1st owner accounts for 3 of the sales records. They leased it, then financed it, and then paid it off. Unfortunately
Carfax and Autocheck report each of those transactions as separate ownership transactions. It's possible the second owner had the same issue. Financed it and paid it off.
So max 4, minimum 3 owners. The current owner states they just aren't using it anymore and gas is going up. It's only been driven 7000 miles in the last 2 years.
I intend to have it checked out by a mechanic before $ is exchanged, but would I be better off looking at these Suburbans with 40-50K more miles that have documented maintenance?

3 or 4 owners for a 15 year old truck wouldn't concern me. It has little bearing on the condition of the vehicle. most private sales have limited maintenance records. Expect to put $2000 in repairs after its bought for a vehicle this old. Inspection is a must!

My 2004 Z66 has around 165000.00 miles on it. When I bought it in 07 it only had 21000.00. The only major problem I have had is the transmission at 75000. Of course when GM uses the same transmission they use in the S10 in a 6000 pound truck it good chance it will fail. Other than regular maintenance it’s doing great. My combined MPG is 16. It’s become part of the family.
I think you should go for it as main has lasted & has been a true work horse.
