Default Airbag code B0081-5a on my 2008 Avalanche

Using the live data option on my Autel MK808 Maxicom indicates my passenger position sensor (PPS?) is measuring in red, “negative” units when weight is applied. Does anyone know if this sensor can be recalibrated? No accidents. “Service Air Bag” on dash. Deleting that code is possible but immediately returns.
Thanks in advance!

Default Reply to Air Bag System Code

Don"t think it can be re calibrated. I brought it up on my Snap-on Scanner and it says for your vehicle in the built in Troubleshooter the code is a Passenger Presence System Plausibility Failure. It is caused when the PPS has requested Passenger Air Bag indicator to change states (from On to Off or Off to On) and the SDM change states message does not match the PPS message. After the PPS change states, the SDM stating the Passenger Status Data Received is not valid within 2.6 seconds.

What you may try which you probably have already, look at the data while getting into the seat then getting out of it and see if it changes. If it doesn't check for a bad connection or disconnected sensor at the seat and the other end. If connections are good you probably have a bad sensor. I'm not a GM expert but I'd take a good look because I don't think it's common for these to go out often on their own.

Hope it helps, Ted R.

Default Airbag woes

Thanks for your response. I did read the PPS using live data and it DOES read the weight however, it reads it in negative numbers for some reason. I’ve removed the leather and examined the sensor and nothing appears out of the ordinary. I even removed the off/on light above the mirror and checked for any signs of possible defects. I’m really puzzled.
