Help - broken tailgate handle

Help - broken tailgate handle
I went to open the tailgate on my 03 Avalanche yesterday and the plastic handle busted off right in my hand. Purchased a new handle for a Whopping $166 and it is obviously a little more complicated to change than just pulling the 3 torx screws. Can any body help?
