Default Red warning light on dash stays on

2002 Avalanche z71 4x4-- After I remove the ignition key when the engine is off, the red warning light on the upper left of the dash stays on.

The big one in the upper left hand corner. It also blinks security when a door is open. But right now it is off when the engine is running but stays red when key is removed.

It is the message center light. The red light does not flash it stays a solid red when I take the key out. A battery picture is also on in the red light. I have attached 2 photos. One looking thru steering wheel and a close up of the red light.

the owners manual will explain each warning symbol.
typically, the battery symbol on all the time after start up indicates a charging system problem.
start the vehicle and check the voltage at the battery with a voltmeter...one lead on each post...red to red, black to black.
running; the system voltage should be approximately 13-15.5 volts. if it is 12.7 or less...the vehicle is not charging.

Thanks. I will do that. The light does turn off when the engine is running.

No but I disconnect the battery overnight and the charge gauge shows about 14 amp when running.
