Question She Wants to Go, But I Can't Get Her There!

I have had my 1990 Chevy Lumina 3.1 for almost 5 years, and of course with an older car, there have been issues. I know quite a bit about cars, but this has both me and my mechanic stumped. A few months ago it was running very hot (but did not overheat) while running errands. When I tried to start her, it would not turn all the way over. I let it cool off and then I adjusted the idle air control and managed to get it home. Since then I have checked/replaced the following items; fuel filter, spark plugs, throttle position sensor, checked all fuses, and even swapped out the ECU. My mechanic said there was plenty of fuel pressure and plenty of spark, but can't get a reading for codes (too old a model). Anyone have any thoughts? I much appreciate you letting me pick your brains!

to clarify:

the problem is...the car is a no start or no crank or slow crank? Are you saying this problem only occurs after a hot soak or all the time?

I am not sure what "it would not turn all the way over" is describing.

Sorry, to clarify: since that day, it turns over, but will NOT start. I had to have it towed to the mechanics.

I will call my mechanic about a compression check tomorrow and let you know. Thanks!

Well, He didn't think a compression check was going to do anything other than crank up my bill so I managed to sell it for parts. Not as much money as I could have gotten, but they towed it and the mechanic shop needed it out of there!

Thanks for the help anyhow!
