Angry Steering Wheel Shimmy

I have a vibration / shimmying problem with our 2018 Bolt. Feels like the wheels are bouncing and the steering wheel shakes, bit unnerving.

First - it never seems to occur when the car is cold. For the first 45+ minutes of driving, no issues at any speed. But, it does not always occur when driving. It is inconsistent with its behavior. :-)

Second It only happens when warm/hot Bolt is going 40+ miles an hour. when I slow down, shimmy abates, but does not go away.

Third, when I get home, I pick up a more than faint "burning rubber" type smell.

Tire pressure is good, the tires are good.

I am thinking the problem is electrical because of the inconsistencies, but just a guess.

Has anyone else had this situation?

I would first try putting the front tires on the back and see what happens.

Yes. Before I replaced my 2021 front axles and front hubs, I had all these symptoms. The burning rubber is burning grease from lack of lubrication in the axles. Regreasing won't work. The boots are OK. The axles and hubs are gone. Mine had all these symptoms at 40k. The hubs, axles, shims, etc are $750 from Chevy online dealers. I did the labor myself. Now it's like new. Smooth, no vibrations. You cannot diagnose with the parts off the car. Also, do not replace the hubs without replacing the axles. One You Tuber just replaced the hubs but the vibration remained. The axles are the problem. But don't waste your time by not replacing the hubs as well. It's all one system.
