CamaroThis classic Pony Car, the Camaro left the lineup in 2002 and was thought to be gone forever, but is made its long-awaited return in the 2010 model year with a 300 HP V6 and a 426 HP V8 SS
I bought myself a project car.It is a 1989 Camaro. Vin #1G1FP21E0KL150664
I have been trying to identify the engine. The trouble is, there doesn't seem to be a code number, or a suffix code on the block. I even removed the distributor and wiper motor in an effort to find the code number. All I can find is "GM 5.0 LG" and what I think is a date code. "K24 C or G", I'm not sure of the letter. As far as the suffix code on the front of the block, there isn't one. There is not even a place for one. I have 2 SBC's in my garage. They both have a pad directly in front of the passenger side head, where the suffix code is stamped. This block does not. I have never seen this before.
Another oddity about this car, it has a 4L80E transmission, which I don't believe is stock, but I don't know a lot about this stuff. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks Greg
Update on the numbers for this Camaro engine. I removed the belt tensioner assembly to gat a better look at the passenger side front of the block. This is what I found. It's only about 1" long.
Theses are the only numbers I have found behind the distributor so far. Maybe there is a code number there, but I haven't found it yet.
I am having a problem with this Camaro engine. As soon as you turn on the key, the radiator fan runs, and it never shuts off. I have replaced the engine coolant temp sensor, near the thermostat, and the fan relay. I have also found the other temp sensor near the starter, and sent that wire to ground, I actually thought that was a knock sensor, but according to my book, it's a temp sensor.
Any ideas? Thanks Greg
