Default 92 Caprice stumbles under light acceleration

My wifes car is a 92 Caprice and it is having some problems. One of them is that the engine stumbles during light to moderate acceleration. If you stomp on the gas its fine it only stumbles under light acceleration. Any ideas on what this can be??

This post is old, but anyone else who is having this problem might be helped by my answer. My catalytic converter went bad and it was replaced, then my Caprice started stumbling under light acceleration. Still did it after plugs and wires, was about to tear into the engine to look at the valves when I did a little more internet research and found it was the EGR valve. I unplugged the vacuum hose and it didn't stumble anymore. I was told on the 'net to try and clean it, but that never worked so I bought a new one. $50 gone but car runs good again.
