Default Ticking Under Acceleration

I have an 82 El Camino with a 5.7 liter 350. When i start the cari can rev it or do whatever and it wont tick. When I'm driving at a constant speed it wont tick or if its slowing down it wont tick. However when I am accelerating, the harder i push the throttle the louder the ticking is. I'm just at a loss at what i can do. Can someone give me some insight? Thanks guys.

Sounds like predetonation from either your timing being off or too low of octane fuel.

Is your heatriser working properly? If it becomes loose it may rattle/tick under acelleration. Same goes for a small exhaust leak. Headers can tick/ring also. If you still have the air injection tubes mounted they can go bad and give a ticking sound.

HOPE THIS HELPS
