Default '93 Fuel Injected 305 running very rich

Ok guys, heres the deal.

Got this car the day before thanksgiving. has 147k on it... shes had a few minor problems here and there, but nothing major. i get about 11mpg, which is normal for a 305 with that many miles on it, but the exhaust smells almost like straight fumes, not exhaust. any suggestions??? money is kinda tight (darn recession!) so low-budget fixes are appreciated........ if any more info is needed, dont be afraid to ask. thank ya kindly.

Unfortunately, I can't offer much help other than telling you that your problem is more severe than you think. You are wasting an extreme amount of gas somewhere. I have a 91' Caprice with the TBI 305 and 306,000 miles on it. Yes that is the actual mileage on the motor. The last time I checked my milage (about two weeks ago), I was averaging 25.3 mpg.

Yeah 11 mpg! I didnt get that with the hypertech chip. I get 19-20 overall city on my 93 and my 91 i had could get 30mpg with 305 motor and 3.08 posi.

Is your service engine light on? and trying to save money for the economy I understand but if your exhaust is so strong look forward to you cat clogging up.
