Default Can a 95 chevy caprice wagon, tow a 25' rv trailer?

I have a 95 chevy caprice wagon, with the LT1. Has an engine oil cooler that does NOT run through the radiator. A tranny line cooler that does NOT run through the radiator. Power steering cooler line that runs up front. Rear MOOG variable springs, with Monroe Load Adjusting Shock Absorbers. Rear anti sway bar. Weight Distribution tow bar. Drum rear brakes, front slotted disk ceramic pad brakes. Not posi traction. K&N air filter, headers, no cat, duel exhaust of course. 225 / 75 R15 tires. The dry weight of the rv trailer is 5129#s. The GVWR is 7705#s. I will not have any water in tanks when traveling, and keep gear down to min. So I hope to hit a GVWR of 6000#s. The engine shouldn't have a problem. From what I seen the tranny is the biggest concern with this car. Is there a better tranny for towing, that can work? Is the frame of the car strong enough? Trailer has electric brakes.

The Caprice was a great car. Since its RWD I'd say you wouldn't have a problem, but I cannot say that for a fact. Yes the transmission would be of concern to me as well, but the 4L60E is a pretty strong transmission and with the cooling system you have it ought to work.

check the owners manual...towing limits will be in it. stay in that range. I highly doubt a car will be in the 5000lb range. My 2000 pick up was only 4500 with auto trans 3500 if standard trans.
you have to subtract the curb weight of the car and passenger weight off the gvwr. the remainder is what you can load on the axles. car probably weights 4500lbs

Thank guys! The tow rating for the caprice with the towing package is 5000#'s, The most I would go is 6000#'s. So,this is why I would beef up the suspension more, and I thought I should change the differential gears. Does any one have an idea what size gears I should have? Definitely a posi. Thanks!

No Thanks.
nothing you beef up will change the tow capacity in the eyes of the law. if you were gonna blow over it...why ask? Get a proper tow vehicle rated for the trailer or get a lighter trailer.

springs, structural strength, brakes, axle capacity, trans, engine, gearing are all factors. unsafe for the road and other drivers. Its as irresponsible as people who come here to remove top speed governors. I applaud British Columbia...is you are over weight there...they take you off the highway and won't let you continue until you are within the rated limits.
