Same Electrical Problem as Others
I've also got the same electrical problems others have posted. Large amounts of corrosion on negative battery post. Car randomly shuts down while driving and key will not remove without pressing the release button behind the steering wheel. I tried to send a private message to the Chevy Customer Service people who have posted on other posts but I don't have permission.

Definitely clean the battery terminals and see if that helps. With large amounts of corrosion on the negative battery cable, it may have to be replaced as when corrosion gets under the cover of the cable, it usually can't be saved. Also look for corrosion on both ends of both cables.
I'm an idiot and would never would have thought to try that. And if you read the other posts on this issue here and all over the internet, they are related. You can have the key issue without the other electrical problems but almost every Captiva with electrical problems have this issue. People have spent thousands of dollars trying to fix this issue. I just want the actual Chevrolet Customer Service person to respond to me as they have with all of the other people in this Captiva forum because I'm pretty sure they are trying to fend off lawsuits. I would like some sort of actual Chevrolet help for a car that actual mechanics have told me has no problems but randomly shuts off while driving 65 miles an hour on the highway since I owe 4 more years of payments on it and haven't been able to drive it for fear of dying since August. And, yes, I've replaced the battery.

Being ignorant of an issue is just that, you don't know. The chevy customer service used to be posts here I guess are no longer. We try to help out with a bulletin board of questions. If you feel what is posted to assist with your issue isn't what you think is a fix, feel free to take your vehicle to the dealer
