I have a 1998 Chevy Cavalier 2.2L Automatic Trans
History:
My turn signals stopped working recently. I finally figured out that it was the 5-prong flasher fuse (conglomerated Hazard/turn signal) located under neath the dashboard. I bought a replacement from Advance Auto. Blinkers now work fine.
Onto my NEW problem::
Once installed, a problem arose.
When the break pedal is pushed (a button or switch is depressed under the dash above the pedal I assume to relay to the tail lights and) the Turn signal flasher fuse makes 2 clicks (as if the turn signal is on) but the lights don't flash. This happens each time the brake pedal is pressed.
I confirmed the switch under the dash by pressing the button with my finger.
Question:
Could I have bought a faulty Flasher fuse?
Is the generic "Advance Auto" brand a crappy brand?
What can I do to fix this?
Thanks

Okay, I figured out the problem.
The Advance Auto brand Flasher fuse is not compatible with the car.
I went to my local Chevy Dealer and bought the authentic GM replacement part. Once it was installed, everything worked fine.
