Transmission issue Cavaliers 2004
Hello,
My automatic Chevy Cavaliers 2004 just had a problem with the transmission. I was driving normally on the road, and then I stopped at Starbucks drive thru while still leaving my car at D position. I still could shift the stick to other positions but the car kept moving as the D position (even when the stick was at P, R, or N).
When I stopped at my house, I had to turn the engine off. Now I cannot turn the car on again. I tried to shift the stick to the N position but the engine wouldn't turn on.
Can someone tell me any way that I can turn on the car? And does anybody know what type of problem happened to my car?
I would appreciate your help.

I would start with the shift linkage. Its cable from lever to trans shift arm. My cable comes into the engine compartment from the center fire wall to the shift arm on top of the transmission under the master break cylinder. Have someone move the lever and watch the arm. It wont start "in gear" without some real work, not a good idea either.
