Default 56 power windows

Hey guys, I’m working on my 56 Chevy truck putting power windows in. It is challenging for sure! My problem now is there is a protrusion inside the door just below the window opening that is apparently to stiffen the door. It’s about 1/4 inch thick and It keeps me from aligning the track to the window channel. Notching this “bump” is the only thing I can think of to solve it, and it’s going to be a bugger to get at. Has anyone ever ran in to this issue?

Good luck! Wedging power window regulators into a door that wasn't designed for them sounds like a trick. I would be hesitant (myself) to cut anything structural, unless you have another way to strengthen that area. That's just my opinion though - and that comes from a guy who owns not one but TWO Chevy pickup trucks with manual windows...

Default One piece glass

Thanks for responding. My truck is modified to having one piece glass. They have never worked right because the glass isn’t balanced on the factory regulator. I have heard that the worm drive electric systems work because they are centered in the enlarged window. Since I posted this I have been told that notching this “bump” is not an issue with a Street Rod truck, no longer a work truck. Thanks Again

Well, I overcame all of the bumps and interference in the doors and got the windows working well. I had no idea how much whittling I was going to do to my doors. The problem is, because the assembly has to be bolted into the door before you can see what clearance problems you'll have as it works up and down. After days of measuring, I drilled the holes and installed the mechanism all to find out the carriage hit the sill of the door (where it folds over). I then had to lower it down resulting in four extra holes in each door. (Swiss cheese) If I did it again, or advised someone on it, I would order new glass that's 1 1/2 inches deeper. There is lots of room in there for the motor to be moved down, and you wouldn't have the problem with the clamp and carriage hitting "things" in the door. Also, it wouldn't be bad if the truck finished and painted.
The maker of the kit claims they have done several of these trucks, but didn't warn of any of these pitfalls.
