I am having a rough time diagnosing a problem with our 1956 3100. It has a v8 with the points distributor. I put in a complete 22 circuit wiring system and ran the ignition wire to the ballast resistor, per the instructions, I also installed a Powermaster One Wire Alternator which is wired directly to the positive side of the battery. The engine started right up, but after running for about 10 minutes it started to miss and finally dies. I found the ballast resistor to be really hot. With the engine not running, the voltage to the coil is 5.6 volts, which I believe is normal. In "Start" it gets 12.4 volts. To get it running again I have to file the points and regap. What's up?

What are you setting the point gap to? You can also try a coil that does not require a ballast resistor. I have a 10SI alternator in my 49 Chevy and have no problems like you are describing.
