Default No crank chevy k10

1985 chevy k10 350. Just wired the truck up with the painless wiring kit got the truck started and could not get the starter to disengage unless I unplugged the negative battery term. After some researching i realized i had to adjust the slider on my ignition switch but as soon as i went to start it my starter started smoking. I took it to get tested they said the starter was fine then plugged it back into the truck and it will not start. My lights dim when i got to start it but i get nothing from my starter. I used a test light to test the voltage to my purple wire and it's doing what it's supposed to and i'm getting 12v from (battery to starter) wire. I'm stuck and i feel stupid because it's such a simple system please help.

Welcome from Florida. Start from scratch and redo the wiring. Sounds like there is a mistake somewhere in the wiring.
