Default code P0449 evap

went to TRAK AUTO (free computer hook-up to check the code on the car) the printout they gave me came back P0449 evap purge/vent. whre is this part? how cheap is this part? will one of the manuals (chiltons, haynes) be helpful? has anyone had this problem? can it be fixed w/out going to the dealer or a mechanic shop, if so roughly how long does it take? I am new to this forum and this car in general. My other car is a pt cruiser (yeah a chrysler) but it runs w/no problems (for now). any assitance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

welcome to the forum,
before replacing anything, check the the label under the hood for the routing of the evap system, trace all the lines and verify that none are cracked, split or broken.
More often then not its a hose or line that is the issue not the valve...not to say its not but check the system out before shotgunning expensive parts that are likely dealer only....

is it under the felt attached to the underside of the hood, if not there is no routing map. does anyone have a diagram as for where it might be? (the solenoid that is) // i did check all hoses and wiring harnesses, and everything seemed to be in order (i used the old dish soap check for a leak routine).

usually there is a sticker on the fan shroud of the evap system... however I went and looked at my own vehicle (a 2007 Tahoe) and the sticker is not there Doh! My wifes 2002 Dodge caravan has it thou...

anyway if you have inspected all the lines and hoses that connect to and from the evap system then its possible the valve could be an issue....

I will see what info I can come up with...

please post the year and engine that you have as that will help narrow it down....

the EVAP system is not a drive-ability critical system it will have minimal impact on driving however it is an emissions systems item and you will not pass state inspection with it failing...

Yes it will be fine to hold off on fixing for a few days
