07 Colorado rear drum brakes
Hi!
What is G.M.'s thinking behind having drum brakes on the rear of a 2007 vehicle? Is it just a cost saving or is ther an engineering reason? I normally will not buy a vehicle with rear drums but I forgot to check this one before i bought it. Anyway it now has 30K miles on it and needs new shoes. Holy cow! $148.00 part price for 5/32 of brake lining? The guys at Kennedy Chevy say that I'm extremelylucky that I got 30K, normal wear on these is 12-15K and new drums every other change at a part price of $120.00 each. Does anyone know if there is a kit to convert these squeeling, overly expensive, thin, old-fashioned, drum brakes to discbrakes? Even if it costs $1000.00 it will pay for itselfquickly in my case with me driving 50K per/YR based on replacing shoes at $150.00 every 15-20K and drums every 40K. Thanks.
