Default Locking Delay

I own a 2012 Chevy Colorado Z71 V8 and when I exit the vehicle and attempt to lock the doors with the keyless remote the doors will not lock right away. There must be a 10 to 15 second delay before the remote seems to work. What would this be preventing as I have the locking device on me when I exit the vehicle? How can I turn this off so the remote responds as requested right away?
