Its WAY pricey. $500 for a key fob job? That's outrageous. Once it's done get spares off of Amazon ($18-35 bucks), Get them cut ($50-60 bucks) and this won't happen again. I have three for my 15 Malibu. Don't need any for my 23 year old K-1500.

Spares are cheap. I have three for my 2015 Malibu. $15 dollars on Amazon, that even comes with the battery. Then it's about $50-60 bucks for a locksmith to cut the grooves. You put the old key in, turn it on, shut it off, install new key-fob and i'ts programmed. Do you have a spare key-fob at all? I suppose not if they have to tow your Colorado, but that's how it's done on
the cheap. Yeap, $500 USD is way overpriced IMO.

laser cut key or conventional? Laser they ain't cheap brah. not to many smiths have the 10 000 tooling to cut laser keys. I hear you though. if you have a AAA membership, they will pay for the cost of towing and $100 towards one key....they do here in Canada.

The majority of the time a "Certified locksmith" can get access to your vehicle's security info and cut and program a key for you at your home a lot less expensive than a dealer tech. They need to be certified and have a special security clearance to access the security info. Suggest you check with a few locksmiths.

Conventional cut for a $15 dollar key-fob I bought off of Amazon, which is better than the stock one as the stock POS become rubberized in no time, while the Amazon one stays hard plastic. The local locksmith outfit here won't cut them at all. Claims they damaged their equipment doing so. Sound like BS to me, but they are losing lots of bling in my opinion.

Other locksmith will do it for $60 bucks, so for another $10 bucks I don't have to worry about being locked out, ever. Cant' beat $75 bucks on a spare key. $500 dollars is a rip-off. It's no wonder so many people only use dealers for warranty work.

Got a great automotive outfit that is as good as any dealer's work, if I don't have time or a lift to repair it myself.

Hi. I had the same issue about a few months ago. I lost my Aveo keys .Here is what I found out after a long research, helped me a lot. So I'm sharing it here in case anyone ever finds themselves in the same mess as me...
I guess there is a huge difference between different keys, models, etc.
Also locksmiths and dealers charge different amounts for the very same key.
This site helped me save a lot of money to get my new key.

Contact a local car locksmith. Many of them are all well versed in replacing vehicle keys. They also experts can make key fobs also.
