Radio Module
I am new to the forum and a have a an issue with my 2023 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss. I bought the truck in May with 2 miles on it. Currently has 2700. Recently my Emergency automatic braking system activated twice. There were no vehicles behind me nor anyone crossing the road. the truck was not in cruise control. I was also having an issue with my infotainment system. The bluetooth was intermittent. I contacted GM and told them about the braking issue and they assigned me a case number. I brought my truck into my dealer. They could not recreate the braking issue, but told me there was a radio update which they started loading.
The update basically blew out the entire electronic system The truck would not start, The digital screen above the steering wheel went black along with the infotainment system. I was given a loaner car while they tried to figure it out. Today they told me they were able to get the truck started, but the screens are black. They told me that there was a short in the radio control module.
They ordered the part only to be told that the part is on backorder and at the minimum won't be available until mid August. This is because there is only one manufacturer. But yet they are producing these to put into new vehicle assemblies, but not for a vehicle that was bought. I find this strange.
They will be paying for a rental vehicle for me while I wait. Needless to say I am extremely disappointed ad frustrated as I have never owned a new vehicle and after driving and reading up on various vehicles settled on the Colorado. I have asked for a rental truck as I pull a camper and was told that I would have to reserve one through a rental car company, pay for it and then get reimbursed. I told them I would not be paying for anything out of my pocket for this. Is this a GM policy?
I do not understand why they cannot just grab a module from a colorado on site....Anybody know why?
Has this happened to anyone else? I will say that GM and the dealer have been very supportive and have began keeping me updated.
Thank You:

One reason for not just pulling parts off of a working truck is the dealership doesn't own them. The vehicles on the lot are owned by a financial company, GMAC most likely, and the dealer pays GMAC when they sell.it, if it's not sold, the dealer then must pay interest on the loan.
Another issue, seen by the military, corp. airlines, and any fleet type business.
You pull enough parts off of something, you make a "hanger queen" that ends up being an empty shell buy the time you get done with it.
While it sucks you are cooling your jets until August, just be happy we are getting ANY chips out of Japan or Taiwan, it takes 3 years to stand up a new chip plant, and costs a few BILLION in cash; just the fabrication machine is $1 billion and you still need very specialized staff to run it.
