Default 2011 Cruze, bad choice for me!

I had heard so much good about the Cruze that I bought a new one. Within a few weeks I realized that I was only getting about 20mpg in the city and had it checked out.. I was told that the engine needed to be "broke in" and would prob not get good mileage intil 10,000mi.
Next the stabili trac light came and and said "SERVICE" Took it back in and they had it 4 days. Ordered new computer chip and said "Never heard of this happening!" Next day, started going on again, then after several miles, go off,. Doing this now for a week. Taking it back in today. This is NOT how a new car should be!

No, It is not how a new car should be. Unfortunately buying any car new or used is a crap shoot and when you lose it doesn't matter what you had heard good about the car or what others have reported. People are quicker to report a problem then to report that they have not had any issues. Would you have registered on this site and created your first post to report that you have had no problems?

While I have had no problems with my Cruze, I did buy the extended warranty for it and my Tahoe. I never buy these for things like appliances and while I don't anticipate major problems with the Cruze, cars today are so complex and so expensive to repair that I think it is worth it even if for just peace of mind. I own a 2004 Toyota Highlander with over 90,000 miles that has been flawless and the extended warranty I purchased expires this month and has never been used. I would still buy the extended warranty again if I had bought a new Toyota. All cars can have problems.

It sounds like part of your frustration is the dealers fault. Keeping your car four days for your issue is way to long and even at that not getting it fixed. As part of GM's warranty they should have provided you with a loaner or paid for a rental. You have to ask.

As far as the mileage, it will do some better once it gets broken in but in the real world you are never going to get what the EPA rating is on any car. If yours is the turbocharged model it will use more gas in city driving unless you are very easy with it when taking off. The turbocharger is what gives the smaller engine its pep but at a price.

Good luck in getting your issues taken care of.

Thanks fo replying. They did provide a loaner, but only one driver is insured to drive it and my daughter uses the car more than me (28). I am at dealership now, waiting for a diagnosis. I had told a co worker how nice the Cruze was the first week. So his daughter bought one and I hope that she doesn't have problems.

Default Recalling my Cruze

I am somewhat relieved to know that my car problems were not in my mind. Several problems with a particular model of the 2011 Cruze and they have issued a recall notice. It has been in the shop for a week and I do have a loaner, but tired of paying for the car that I bought and not having it. I am paying for insurance for myself and daughter to drive the Cruze and with the loaner only one of us is allowed to drive . Getting very inconvienent.

Lorraine,

I am glad to hear that you’re getting your vehicle repaired. Have you spoken with the dealership to confirm if there was any way your daughter would be able to use the loaner vehicle?

Thank you!

Actually my personal insurance covers any car that my daughter or I drive. I had one of the recall issues that needed to be dealt with and the second recall issue was fine. However, the dealership is having a very difficult time getting the proper fit for the "stabili trac connector. Now they are waiting for third or fourth replacement to arrive. Out of my car for 10 days now.
The upbeat is that I beat several Cruzes coming in early this morning for the recall issues. I was out checking on progress of my car.
Thanks for inquiring.

Elizabeth, My car remains at the garage at H&H. The length of time thus far is 16 days and this is only for this particular time. It was in there before for a week. I am told that they are still waiting for the stabili trac component. The previous components that they received were not making a good connection. Are they having to retool the component, which should be a standard size for my make and model? The stabili trac for any identical make and model of the Cruze that I have, should work in my car.
My car has been in the shop previously for this issue at least for a week.
Here in Nebraska we have a lemon law. How would this work? I know that if a new car has been in the shop for repairs a total of 40 days during the first year, it would have to be replaced. I have only had my car for 3 months and it has already been in for 21 days. How hard can it be to get a standard component to make the proper connections to another standard component?
