Crank Case Pressure After PCV System Upgrade
2011 Cruze 1.4T with 148k miles.
I added the Cruze kit 3.4 PCV upgrade 3 weeks ago. (I also did a timing chain\guide, water pump, valve cover job at this time). Everything seemed to run fine.
Today found the turbo to exhaust clamp had lost its screw, causing a minor exhaust leak. Fixed.
During this, discovered that there's A LOT of crank case pressure and a thumping sound I can hear when I remove the oil cap while idling.
I was told: "if it’s crankcase pressure at idle, the most common causes are deposits built up in the cylinder head between the valve cover and manifold, a cracked piston, or a defective aftermarket valve cover."
I just replaced the valve cover and didn't notice any deposits.
I just replaced all of the oil seals in this thing within the past year and I'm worried about them blowing out.
BORESCOPED AND COMPRESSION TESTED.
180 psi across all of 4.
No visual cracks in pistons.
Cylinder 4 plug wasn't super tight and had bubbly oil all in the plug well. Piston 4 has quite a bit of oil. maybe it just fell through when I took the plug out?
There's no coolant in the oil that I can find. Though I do seem to be losing a tiny bit of coolant every few days.
Am I looking at a DOA valve cover or maybe the gasket got out of whack and the PCV exhaust gasses are bypassing the valve cover?
