Is it a good idea to buy a chevy cruze?
i recently bought a 2012 cruze Lt1 and at 1400 miles i am very happy with it. some people mentioned they prefer their higher end cars, and if you have the money i would recommend it. a malibu, impala, or charger are going to be better cars for reliability. they are also going to cost you more and are going to give you less fuel economy. and the warranty is going to be the same. for the features this car has and for what fits my budget this was an easy choice for the best GM car for me. the tough decision was when i compared to other manufacturers.
I posted a negative comment yesterday in the New Member area and copied it here in the Cruze area today - I have not heard from a GM Rep - and I disagree that all the issues with the 2011 Cruze have been resolved. They have NOT been resolved because apparently GM does not know HOW to resolve them. Oh, if you consider they have a new transmission in the 2012 model a resolution, then I guess that's true. But what are you doing about the owners with the lousy 2011 6 speed auto trans????
I'm not sure what you intend to get out of your posts. Although there's a member called Chevrolet Customer Service hanging around, this site isn't affiliated with GM. Also, the member himself isn't even in the same organization as the Customer Assistance Center. As for your venting, we're all ears but you still need to take proactive action to contact Customer Assistance and then escalate your issues up the chain.

Try contacting any one other than dealer or customer service rep in Canada! Have been tempted to drive to Oshawa. I feel those of us with 2011 lemons are being blown off..."That's just the way that car is" seems to be their mantra.I just wanted a basic reliable car(like my old Cavalier) but never expected the number of problems this car has had-will never buy another GM-and I've driven them for over 40 years. Be careful,GM-you're alienating your loyal customers.
The largest issue was people improperly replacing the oil filter and not replacing the cap correctly, causing oil to leak out. which caused a fire from oil puddling up simply because the mechanic was an idiot.
They fixed that by not letting the oil puddle up, but the root of the problem is so called "certified" mechanics doing a bad job really...

Most everyone I met who has the Cruze loves the vehicle, they also are packing on the milage and never have issues.
it is up to you if you like the vehicle or not, go test drive it and give it a good evaluation, I suggest you avoid media as they are most always negative and like to bash everything, I suggest you make up your own mind on your own evaluations of the vehicle.
I have noticed people who do not like the car tend to congregate on forums like this one and that gives a false perception of reality in my opinion...
----------------------------------
I personally dislike the Cruze, I also dislike the Impala, but that does not mean they are bad cars.
I have driven both as rentals for a good period of time because my car was totaled and my other car got wrecked from bat drivers...
I can say, you have to get used to the design of the vehicle, if your used to a vehicle like the old 3 spd auto's or 4 speed auto's, the newer auto transmissions need some getting used to.
When I got in the newer vehicles, I was like I hate this, but after I got used to it and learned how to drive for fuel economy and learned how to make it down shift and whatever at my command, I loved the engine and trans.
But I still disliked the style of the vehicle.
I however love the sonic, but its to small for me...lol

A good sales man will have no problem with you trying out the vehicle as long as you don't wreck or break it.
And ask lots of questions, and make sure you get the sales man to stop his "tout fest" attitude and to give it to you straight.
Every sales man tries to "sell" because they get a cut all the time.
--------------------------------------
They offer 2 different engined with the cruze and 2 different transmissions.
The smaller engine has a turbo on it, and the bigger engine does not.
However they are both 4 cylinder engines and the largest is 1.8L, the other I believe is 1.2L, but do not quote me on the smaller one, I forget...lol
You can also get a 6 speed manual or the 5-6 speed auto, I forget how many gears the auto has.
GM offers many different choices, The Impala is a good buy for the money, but I do not own one and do not plan to I dislike it.
---------------------------------
In the end it comes down you you:
1) Do you like the vehicle.
2) Can you get used to its design.
3) Do you feel safe in it.
4) will it be able to perform under your expectations.
etc...
If you know anyone with the cruze who used it for a while, ask them if you can test drive it, this way you get a feel of both a Used one and a new one...
Kinda like a before and after info thing, if you know what I mean?
------------------------------------------
EDIT:
Also, ignore people who are saying GM lost loyal customer, blah blah blah.
Make up your own mind, To many times I see people get taken by a bad mechanic or shop and then blame it on the car.
And many times I see those biased attitudes shun everything GM offers simply because they feel the need to stick it to GM in some way because they feel like they were taken by GM.
Make up your own mind, evaluate the vehicle with your own eyes, its the best you can do.
Don't be like the rest of the sheep and believe everything that everyone says.
Also, you have to be realistic, of the people who do have problems with the cruze, they are a minority.
As with ANY new car or used car, it is a gamble when you buy it, yes they came off the same assembly line, but no 2 cars are exactly the same, no 2 pieces of gold bars are exactly the same, one in a group might have an impurity in it, you know?
That said if you do test the Cruze, cold start it, let it run, test everything test drive it like crazy, floor it, drive easy with it, test the breaks, etc...
As this should be done with any vehicle really, see what I mean?
You can even relate it to buying a house, you have to look things over, make sure quality is there, etc...lol
good luck with your decision.
