Is it a good idea to buy a chevy cruze?
We bought a new Cruze in 2011 and had a lot of problems with the car and not all problems could be resolved , We really liked the performance and all
the options that the car had but we couldn't live with all the problems . If GM solves all the problems that the car has with poor design we probably would buy another Cruze. We decided to buy a 2012 Malibu which has been dependably and the dealer made us a good deal so we could get ride of the Cruze. Some of the problems were Transmission leaks & rough shifting/brakes/burnet oil smell in car/antifreeze leak/rattle noise just to list a few. If the 2013 Cruze proves to be reliable we might buy another one but the 2011 Cruze was junk.

It's really too bad that GM is IGNORING so many of the Cruze problems! Sooner or later it's ALL going to catch up to them! Don't know if you saw this-

Hope the Malibu is treating you better. Good luck.

I am a 2013 Chevy Cruze Eco owner and would NOT recommend anyone to purchase one of these vehicles. The Reduced Power problem is just the beginning. Random trunk openings, car surging forward with brakes applied, the smell of burning oll, to name of few of the problems I have been experiencing. My warranty had just expired (within 500 miles) when the reduced engine power issue got me. I was told that the warranty should still cover this issue being that it was so close to expiration; over $350 later, still nothing. Sorry GM, but this is not a reliable car.

Sorry to read this, but it does NOT surprise me! I HOPE GM steps up to the plate and does right by you!

As an aside, my 2013 Buick Verano Turbo had been GREAT and troublefree since Jan. 31st until the present!
I have a fleet of 10 working cars and have found the cruze to be one of the most unreliable and has the highest running costs.
The chevy cruze is by far the most reliable and safest car i have seen.
My friends and family have them as well as many other people i know. And they love the car.
They have had absolutely no problems at all. The car has proven its reliability.

We had the same issues with are Cruze it overheated twice . the transmission malfunctioned many times after the car overheated and on top of all that the dealer put the wrong fluid in the coolant container and car overheated again . then when we had a oil change the dealer technician did it wrong and all the oil leaked out we discovered it the following day when we had oil puddle in are driveway we actually could see oil drips down the road all the way to the dealership no not kidding . and to top it all off due to the car overheating and the snotty service are transmission that never worked correctly and had to be worked on many times ( re flashed) just blew up just past the warranty limit . I truly believe it is because the car overheated so many times. Waiting for the dealership to call me with the bad news on a car i still owe 9 grand on that I can't afford to fix . but hey than allot GM for listening to me all the times I tried to complain and return this car I was reassured that if anything happened to the transmission I would be covered due to the problems I had with it even if warranty ran out now lets see if they keep there word .

I must agree....My wife's Cruze has been fantastic.
So much so my youngest son recently bought one,Triple Black. His first brand new Car!
My son test drove all the competition, they all felt like tin cans to him.He loves his new Cruze
No problems ever on both of them. The wife's is closing in on 100K miles.
What's not to like...
Just to point out that most people will only post a personal review if they have a bad experience. You look up any product and you will find lots of complaints. This is because they are manufactured by machine and some are bound to have issues.
The cruze was originally designed by GM's German branch. The Germans designed it with a turbodiesel. About half of them sold in Europe are diesel.
Personally I'd go with diesel for the added reliability and getting over 50mpg highway

Chevrolet Customer Care
I have a update and a apology to GM ...I bought my cruze in 2011 and definitely had issues which all was taken care of under warranty I think most of us are already familiar with the recalls . anyways I just wanted to thank the people in this forum for all your help especially the " gmguy" or what ever name he or she goes buy . I had transmission issues twice under warranty and I was convinced it was damaged from the constant banging and sloppy shifting ...and the overheating ( twice) also the loss of transmission fluid also fixed under warranty ..my car was extremely low on fluid and ever sense then it was not working properly. This was at 20,000 miles ..and it was frustrating for sure but GM did fix the leak etc. But I was truly concerned about internal damage and wanted them to replace the transmission or buy the car back and I was serious . but they stuck to there guns and I did not push the issue . I did manage to get a verbal promise over the phone that sense the fluid did leak out and was not shifting correctly and the fact it severely overheated twice that if the transmission or motor blew down the line ( future!) that it would be taken care of . well guess what last week my ttransmission blew going 30mph . I just got a call from the dealership.and they told me GM would honor the promise and is fixing or rebuilding the transmission. So just wanted to say THANK YOU GM FOR KEEPING YOUR WORD . IT MEANS ALLOT TO ME KNOWING YOU GOT YOUR CUSTOMERS BACKS ..I SUPPOSE I SHOULD EDIT MY USER NAME AS I AM NOT PISSED OFF AT GM ANYMORE THEY HAVE RESTORED MY FAITH IN GM ...FOR NOW!!!
