So, I didn't think of anything of it the other day but considering the fact I just purchased this car privately, makes me kick myself that I didn't show this car to a mechanic first.

My vehicle has been giving problems starting. 2 nights ago I had attempted to start the car 5 times before it turned on. Today, it took me a couple attempts until I pressed the gas and presto, it worked. I'm not sure if that was a coincidence. Also, there was a gassy odour when it turned on but shortly went away. Is there anything I can check myself or should I bring it into a mechanic.

Mind you the noise is not a clicking noise, it's as if its trying to start, but cant.
