Liftgate opens, doesn’t close
Hi I have a 2018 Equinox. My liftgate has been opening fine via all buttons and the fob and staying open, but won’t close via any of those methods. No reaction if I push the button on the door. If I try to close it with the fob the rear lights blink but nothing else happens. Anyone know what the issue is? TIA

2015 EQUINOX Rear Liftgate Won't Close
I have the same problem. Started this morning. I opened it this morning, went to the shop, used the interior button to open the hatch, it opened. Removed several items and used the hatch button to close, it didn't work, I used the fob and the lights blinked three times but did not close. Used the interior button, did not close. I manually closed the hatch, then used the fob to open and it works, did this using the interior button and hatch exterior button, each method opens the hatch. Any help please!
UPDATE: 7/14/2023
Drove to the grocery this morning. Opened the hatch using the fob. Put groceries in vehicle, pushed the hatch button to close the hatch and it worked. Did the same with interior button and it also worked. I have no idea why it quit working and now it is working again??

I have the same problem. You can open the lift gate with key fob, interior actuator button or rear opener. It will sometimes close other times it will not. The problem has been going on intermittently since we purchased the car new in June 2018. At first every time I took it to the dealership it would work. Take it home and it would work sometimes sometimes it would not. Then I finally take it to the dealership and it does not work. It is now out of warranty and the dealer wants $135 just to open the overhead to see what the problem is. No guarantee of a fix. I insisted that it had been going on since we bought the car. Didn't matter. I have tried twice to get a resolution, but the fix still costs more than a hundred dollars to get started. Does anyone have a solution?

Hi Art, Mine still working, but if it should start not working I will tear it apart and figure it out. If I do I'll post my findings. I retired from GM in 2006, was an engineer working in Quality Systems for last 20+ years of my career. It's a shame that these type of problems cannot be communicated by the dealers to GM and a solution or solution tree provided for resolution. Or maybe the dealer won't or isn't provided an avenue of communication any longer. So many of the components in our vehicles come from overseas, not like the old days before NAFTA and the beancounters took control, when most everything produced at superior quality and reliability inside the Big3.

Sorry, I've had the problem reoccur just once, middle of December, and with the holidays and this last month my 95 year old mother taking ill have not had time to research any further. Just waiting for reoccurrence and not working at all. Mom has joined Jesus so my time is freed up. I still have some folks I used to work with at the Tech Center, maybe they can help.

Did anyone find the fix for this. My 2018 terrain just started this. Up from either button at door, button on exterior lift gate or key fob but none make it go up but the terrain does flash lights when pressing the buttons.

The dealer is fine for scheduled maintenance, recall programs or TSB (technical service bulletin) work but if it's not a problem documented for the dealer by the manufacturer, you're not getting it fixed. There's many reasons for this that have more to do with liability restrictions than any practical reason. A well equipped independent repair garage can most likely run down the cause in under an hour and advise you on what's needed or if you're handy; access to wiring diagrams and theory of operation information can be had from a number of sources for a small fee. Dealer will scare you off with threats of costly diagnosis, no guarantee of results or suggest major component replacement at high cost but you already know this. Good Luck!
