chevy - a set on Flickr any tips on break in? One thread mentioned using 91 octane for better mileage? appreciate any input thanks

 

Regular 87 octane worked fine for me. Just vary the speed for the first 500 miles - ie don't drive 50 miles at a steady 70 mph. After that it should be fine.

She traded a 2010 saturn vue, 2.4 eco engine, 3 speed, when it was running the engine emitted absolutely NO sound or vibration, you had no idea it was started and running! The equinox right from the start had and still does a tapping sound, like a bad lifter, which gets louder as it warms. The salesman pulled another 2012 along side ours which was noticabley quieter but of course he couldn't hear the difference, took it over to the shop, the lead tech pointed to the HPFP, listened and concluded it was normal, he also mentioned that GM was placing a noise shield around this part and that ours already had this mod, with the amount of noise this parts is making I can't see it lasting very long, car now has 200 miles on it, this may have been a mistake!

 

We have had our 2010 'Nox since Dec of 2009 and have had no problems. Yes, the ticking noise is there and I believe that it will be there for a number of years with no problem.
Additionally, if things do go south, you have a 5 year/100000 mile powertrain warranty.

the engine has direct fuel injection. the high pressure injectors will sound like that. its normal. the injectors will be louder than regular injectors that inject into a low pressure manifold.

running higher octane fuel for any low compression engine is a complete waste of money and doesn't do anything for fuel mileage or maintaining cleanliness of the fuel system.
