factory cruise control after the fact

I don't know what YOU need since you didn't provide any information about your vehicle.
Retrofit might be possible at home on older vehicles with cable controlled throttles.
GM have been using electronic throttles for almost 20 years now and cruise is programmed into the computer.
I'm guessing that:
- GM won't do it
- a well equipped shop MIGHT do it.
- it's not possible at home without expensive electronic equipment.

do you have drive by wire or throttle cable? my 2000 sierra pu with throttle cable...all i needed was to get the cruise modulator assembly and multifunction switch. no programming required.

Did you try web searching. There appears to be a ton of info. This is one of the first results:

On vans like my 2002 2500 it depends on how it's equipped. My 3500 with crank windows and manual locks does not have the plug under hood for the cruise unit. My 2500 with power windows and locks does have the plug. I picked up a unit and a turn signal switch with cruise but I've never bothered to install it.
I see 2008 and newer with still crank windows and it makes me wonder if there's a difference, but if they're drive by wire then the computer already controls the throttle so likely you would just need the switch.
