Default Fuel Pumps, Lifespan of Such and Fuel Levels.

This is a topic I am at times thinking about and I noticed it elsewhere in another thread. I figured that I would bring it up as a topic.

I typically Fuel my van up completely, log my mileage and other data to track it, and then I don't refuel until the light comes on. Typically, I think the light comes with around 17L left in the 117L tank. A few times I have ran it down to nearly 6L left in the tank.

Considering the Fuel cools the Fuel Pump. What's the best practice?

i was told to not let the tank go below 1/4.
gas in the tank helps cool the fuel pump

My understanding is to gas up before the light comes on. I usually fill at 1/8 tank or up.

Agree with SnIpeR, not only does it cool the pump, but also you don't pick up all the trash and contaminants in your fuel tank. Also never fuel up when the tanker is filling the tanks at the gas station because all of the dirt and contaminants are now disturbed in the tank. Which in turn you pump into your vehicle, or so I was told and I practice. I never really go below half tank, unless I'm traveling on the road, and then I go to 1/4 tank.
