My question pertains to the ECM in the subject line. 5.7 liter engine. When the check engine light comes on for a short period of time and then goes off, is there a code set and will the code remain after the light goes off?

yes, a code will be stored which you can retrieve with a scan tool. even if the monitor has now run and passed; the failure dtc will still be stored in history.


you have a 5.7 in a 2004? thought it would be a 4.8, 5.3 ,6.0 or 6.6.

 

I stand corrected on the engine size. I'm out of date.
This van is a RoadTrek conversion RV that belongs to a single lady friend of mine. She is being jerked around by the local repair guys. They told her the codes would go away if and when the check engine light went out. I know it don't work that way on my Blue Oval. I was suspicious GM was the same.
I am far more knowledgeable of vehicles from the dark side. Ford if you must. GRIN

they will eventually clear themselves after 40 key cycles of the monitor running and passing. However, that will take considerable time. It is basically the same for all post 1996 models obd II.
