I'm replacing the rear pads and rotors on the van along with the caliper on the driver side.
Here's my problem I got everything off and I'm trying to install the driver side rotor, but it won't seat completely. I've adjusted the emergency brake in as far as it will go by spinning the thing on the bottom. But still the rotor won't seat completely..any ideas?
Looks to be hanging up on the bottom of the emergency brake.
I know this is some serious dead thread resurrection and I apologize if that's not kosher (didn't see anything in the forum rules), but I am having the exact same issue on my '04 3500. Hopefully this post is tied to your email and you remember what you did?
If not, anyone else? This brake and rotor replacement has been nothing but headaches.
The old rotor just has a spot where you can tell the brake hit, but no groove. The new rotor has one built-in, as pictured, but it shouldn't be in the way.
(Also note the loose...seal?...on the axle housing. Not sure about that, though I think it's a separate problem.)
In trying to explain what I did and looking at names of parts I realize...I think that's part of the old inner seal which I replaced . That makes me think that's what's hitting and I might be a moron... I'm going to go fiddle but if anyone can confirm that'd be great.
So the best thing about asking for help on a public forum is you eventually solve it yourself right after you ask for help, realizing that you asked a *really* dumb question.
Yes, it was the old wheel seal. Yes, I had installed the new one and not realized part of the old one was still on the axle. So for future people finding this thread, I had to pry it off. This video had the explicit step that made me realize what I was doing wrong:
