Default 88 Chevy G20 Gear indicator

I just bought this van (upgraded from a 83). I noticed a few days after buying it that there is no gear indicator. I also learned a few nights after that there is no light either. So I have no idea what gear I am in! Its not a big problem because I know where there gears are pretty much. I just worry about being in a situation where I have very little space or room for error.

Is this a reasonably easy fix?

Any help would be great!

I think there is a small cable that connects the red needle in the display. It could be broken. As for a fix, I would check a repair manual on the build of the steering column.
The light should be easy to change at the same time.
Make sure that the shift cable is adjusted properly as well.
