cruise control added 2008 chevrolet collins bus
wanted to write down how adding cruise control went on this bus to hopefully help others
this is a base model 2008 with nothing on it, chassis for a bus until it got to collins
need to start this by saying the van had NO codes, we had some emissions issues/trans sensor issue when we first got it and it got scanned a good bit for a while
i originally got the cruise control switch and wiring off a wreck and put it in the steering wheel hoping this would work- it did not
so i ordered the clock spring that had all the wiring for connected radio and cruise etc, got everything apart and saw the clocksprings looked exactly the same/same wiring etc
talked to the dealer and they checked both part numbers and as far as they could tell they were identical except the years were different
decided not to waste that money and did not put in the new clockspring
thought i needed programming at the dealer
5 days later i get a check engine light and run the codes, it shows the brake light switch...
put in new brake switch and knowing those could be connected decided to put the cruise control switch back in real quick and see what happened
figured there was a 5% chance it might work
it works perfectly
so on this bus all i needed was the cruise control switch and a new brake switch - even though the brake switch had not shown a code until then
hope this helps someone else, 2 cheap parts to try
i will eventually get a new steering wheel with the radio and cruise switches and will update this on whether the radio can be controlled from the steering wheel or not
