Fuel tank vents and evap system line swap help
So I am swapping in a used tank and finally got the old one out. 96-02 models have a metal tank that sits on a plastic tray which also serves as mount for the fuel filter and canister.
The tank has two lines from the canister to what I believe I saw on Rock Auto are tank vents, plastic pieces the line attaches to. But the line doesn't use a clip, it's knurled out and presses on the vent like they do onto the fittings for the line clips.
The replacement tank, they drop them in the yard to drain and just cut all that stuff off, leaving the vents with a short section of line.
So how do I swap them over to the replacement tank? Does fuel actually flow through them, or could I splice and tape them up (say by slicing one and feeding it inside the end of the other side an inch or two)? I think given the position fuel would only go in if you overfill the tank or if you tipped over. They sit higher than the filler neck tube does.
Also had to take the filler neck off to get the tank out, there was a ground strap from the body to the neck which is shot. I presume I want to replace that somehow, to prevent static electricity on fill up, because the metal neck is not connected metal on metal any other way.

You might want to determine just where those lines go from the tank.
There is a good possibility they go to the charcoal canister to capture the fuel vapors which get burned after certain conditions are met. Those vapors are controlled by a purge valve. . Suggest you do a little homework and have some idea how the system works so you do the right thing.

uh, I know exactly where they go. I said exactly where they go. They go to what I presume is the canister. The question was how to take them off the vents, or take the vents out.
The answer ended up being the vents twist about 120' and pull out. No need to take the lines off.
