Default HELP - Some of the under dash wiring fried 2005 Express van

I need some help , 2005 Savana - Express

the accessory socket shorted and fried the wiring ! OUCH
So under the dash I have the accessory socket and a bundle of wires that go to a black box turn signal module ,
the melting wire was in this bundle and goes about 10 inches and then turns a corner and goes towards the instrument cluster.
some of these wires has the insulation burned or melted off

Does anyone have photos with the dash top off or know where this bundle of wires goes to ?
or can point me to a website / youtube that shows this ?

do I need to take the dash face off / or the dash top ?

Since I do not know what is fried I do not want to try and start it or even turn the key ( battery cable is now dis-connected)

Any help appreciated , right now its dead and I need it for work ,

Thanks for pointing me to a fix

And why did the accessory socket fuse not pop ????

Thanks for

See if you can find a van like yours at a u pick junk yard and get the wire harness that burned. Also take a lot of pictures of where everything goes if you can. Make some sketches if you can't get the pictures.

I took the plastic front dash cover off and it did not show me much more than I can see from looking under the dash , a couple 10mm M6 nuts and a couple 10mm head pointed screws.....pretty simple.

Ummm are there any photos on the net that show how the wiring modules clip together ?

Do I need to remove the engine cover ( I hope not )

Any ideas appreciated

UPDATE : I dug out the endoscope I bought on Amazon last year and figured how to hook it up on my iPad ,
it did not really show me much , the bundle of wires goes behind the radio area and is wrapped in black tape , the tape does not look melted .....
But the wires going over to the blower seem fine ......

So if I take the radio out do I lose the (anti-theft) radio code ? its just a stock GM AM-FM radio

Can you identify the harness in any of those diagrams ?

Seems like that socket, the former cig lighter, is always hot even with ignition off. So the odds are it will run and drive okay despite the damage.

its this section , #10 is the lighter , #9 is the bundle of wires that are fried ,
I have no idea how much more is damaged , but I assume it got hot all the way to the fuse box,

Any more info on that loom ? how does it connect at the firewall and then to the fusebox (I assume)

have you ever taken one out ?

would the van still start if I disconnected this loom ,? then at least I could move it

Thanks so much

Any aftermarket accessories installed ? Head unit, alarm, remote starter ?

Before reconnecting the battery I would remove the radio and from there you will be able to acces/see this harness(#10 and #9).
See how much damage and if you have wires that have copper exposed? Remove the tape or plastic loom around the harness as far as you can reach.
See if the damage reach the main harness #6

Without being 100% sure I would say the large gauge accesory/socket wire would go to the driver side.

Hi ,
No Head unit, alarm, remote starter or other stuff added under the dash ,

I am going to go out and pull the radio and the instrument cluster and look at the wire bundle to see how far that it is damaged ,
but if the lighter "hot wire" goes thru this bundle and you would think it would toast all the way back to the fuse box ( if thats where its getting its power)

are there any other photos or drawings that might help me chase where this section connects to the rest of the wiring ?

Thanks again for your help

As you can see, the wires for the cigar and aux power outlet runs to the fuse box under the hood. So if the wires cause a fire or became hot enought to melt the plastic around other wires in the harness
then you must chase them along the harness #6 to the driver side then thru firewall and the under hood fuse block. Those are red/white wires.

Begin by inspecting fuses # 29 and fuse #30.

Thanks......first thanks for the wiring diagram ,

I pulled the radio , it gave me a little more access but not much,
So I tried to pull the instrument panel but there is not enough room to pull it back , not sure if I need to lower the steering column or ????

Next I pulled off the center console hoping for more access but that did not help much either ,

so now I am going to pull the Passenger seat so I can pull off the engine cover ,

with the engine cover off I should be able to see the wiring loom and how its mounted....

And removing the engine cover is OK because then I can change the plugs etc.

Again BIG thanks
