Is this normal? .. I don't know much about this van but it looks like the coolant passage are open and I'm concerned. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Doesn't look right but what's the back story? Did you put this together? Is it running and driving?

It looks to me like someone offset the intake manifold gasket by a cylinder, and the gasket is just hanging out. Or they used a V8 gasket on a V6 block or something weird like that. I've done the intake manifold gaskets on both my 1996 C1500 and 2006 Silverado engines, both V8, and the gasket shouldn't be hanging out off the head like that.

What year and engine are we talking about here?

It's definitely wrong. Looks like someone was a few too many beers in when they did this. I would definitely get a new gasket and do the entire job over. The gasket is likely damaged and I wouldn't trust any part of the job done by whoever did that.
