Default Interior Fusebox

If you could move yours, where would you put it?

Again, there is just no room. I suppose it is right where it should be. I've been looking for an alternate place, but there's just no room. The doghouse has to remain accessible. A person could have a cab-guard immediately behind the seats. Under the drivers seat is really the only place.

In a totally unthinking moment two years ago, I cut half the wires to mine, soldered and extended them with exact matching wires (I had two spare dash harnesses) and moved it out from under the seat. I figured I would deal with it later. Well it is later and now it is still flopping beside the drivers seat. I am thinking of making my own. I could do it for next to nothing out of all the parts I have, or I spend $50 and make it easier on myself. I just need to decide were to put it. I am thinking, if nothing, back under the seat on a slide out drawer. I'll throw other electronic additions in there too if I do that allowing for full customization. I do not really need all the options my truck has, I could make them all. Keyless entry and all that jazz. Guess the only thing I couldn't do is the remote start because that uses a code.

I just had plans to upgrade the head unit, amplifiers and speakers and that just through a wrench into everything. No room to put anything and every change causes ten problems. Especially the way I do it. I am on my fourth radio and I think I will either be gutting or selling it to run a different Operating System. It's great, but it doesn't connect to anything. I can use the screen and put a tiny Windows PC in. On Windows or Linux at least anything I throw at it will work. Well, Windows anyways. There is one thing I am currently that uses Windows only. I almost wish I never touched it. If I never bought that car audio for such a good buy I never would have.

I did not understand anything of the above.

Ok... I either cannot type, or something... I am scared to re-read it. I just do not like that factory fusebox. If I wasn't suppose to be heading out of town, I think I would explore the idea of building drawers that slide out from under the seats and mount my fuses there, perhaps along with my amps.

Was discussing this with wife earlier and came up with maybe a pivot to rotate, maybe a slide to pull out for access.

Yeah, same thoughts I have had. That's like what I will do. I've thought of having it turned facing the driver, in fact, I think I was planning that when I originally extended it, but now I am thinking slide out trays. I thought behind the seat, but that does not work if I install a divider. There is really no place to put it. Underneath outside, or under the seat. Under the dash doesn't work. Communications modules are there. I had Joe over, comparing vans. He has cool under the seat slider... I'd like that area for storage, but I think I will build something similar and put my fusebox/amps there.

Ooh, ooh. Just had a thought. What's under your passenger seat? Not exactly a "new" location. Might mean better access even with a slide out of you're right handed like myself.

Personally, I would avoid making the fusebox pivot, slide, or move in any way. That's just asking for broken wires. Great care was taken to stabilize wiring throughout the vehicle. The only places with movable wiring, the door harness, is where people experience the most electrical problems.

How often would you need access to the fuse box? It would have to almost be daily to fatigue the wires. It's not like the wiring is solid core(as opposed to braided). Under the seat is a royal PITA. The one time I needed access, I felt the need to remove the seat, just so I could see. It is in a bad place, but I don't see an alternative.
