Default Lower Control Arm Bushing Install Advice

I'm rebuilding the front suspension of my 1980 Chevrolet G20 Van, I was able to remove all bushings from the upper and lower control arms.

I'm in the process of installing the 2nd bushing on the lower control arm, as you can see I cannot use a ball joint press because the cross shaft gets in the way....

I tried pushing in the bushing using the cross member bolt and tightening it down, but the bushing went in crooked and got stuck, so I took it out, and got a new bushing, are there any other ways of getting the bushing in?

If you don't have a press, then a thick pipe and a 2# sledge is a good start.
