Hi all.
I have a 2002 chev express passenger with the rear heat/air option.
One of the lines that supply the rear heater is leaking.

There are three steel lines the go along the body under the right front passenger seat. They are clamped right behind the front wheel with a rubber grommet. There is a coolant leak right at this grommet. Likely one of the three pipes is leaking. There is two large pipes and one smaller diametre one.

I am guessing that I can patch the line with some heater hose and clamps, but wanted to ask if anyone here has attempted the same fix, and if it worked. I don't look forward to replacing the whole line, and the route it takes along the right front fender is a mess.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Haven't done it but don't see it being a problem if it is the hot water line. That's a common connection type. BTW when I installed a receiver hitch on another vehicle with rear air, the a/c line pushed up against it so I put plastic wire loom on the line to prevent rubbing.

 

Do you want to retain the rear heat function? If not maybe you can just bypass it with a hose?

 

Yeah, I deff want to keep the rear heat. I will dig into it a bit this weekend. I am hoping I can just patch it.

 

Well. It turs out that 5/8" heater hose fits perfect over the stainless pipe. It was the hot side not the return side. I cut through with a hack saw blade by hand, and removed a three inch piece. Now I just need to babysit it to make sure it is not weeping.

 

Copper pipe, and compression fittings work well as a relatively inexpensive fix as well.
