Default power steering mount problems

HI and Hope you all are well.
My problem is that I am changing out a v-6 engine in my 1986 chevy 10 van to a 1972 250 L-6. I thought it would be a peach( WRONG). First of all while leaving the trans where it was made the motor too far back for the cover to latch down and the motor was too far back in the front. Well I cut the mounts and moved everything forward to fit about 10 inches. With this done round 2 started with the shifter linkage needing to be shortened did this also ( going good at this time) Round 3 the 250 didn't come with power steering so I went on ebay and bought mounting brackets for same engine (L-6) Guess what they dont fit. My question to you all is WHY DON"T THEY FIT?????? .The hard ware I bought looks like they will but the holes are off and it hits the manifold are they different years. I always thought that all L-6 250 165 and 292 were the same in this respect. What do you think
