Default replacement tires - TPC SPEC

Van owner's manual qualifies new tires needing to meet a TPC SPEC (Tire Performance Criteria Specification) but does not say what that is.

Searching it seems the TPC spec is something specific to GM. Attempts at getting additional information just gets me funneled to a dealer.
I found one chart that refers to a TPC SPEC 1156 but nothing on what that entails.
I also found 'TPC Spec: 2012M6' stamped on a BRIDGESTONE; V-Steel RIB 265 that matches the size on my van.

Can someone shed some light on this TPC Spec and what good it is past the tire size and construction that are typical purchase requirements?

I thought all that was important was the spec on the door too. I glanced in the owner's manual and read the TPC note.
I have no idea if TPCs are new or old. The van is 17 years old.
What does your owner's manual read?

If my experience is an indicator, what ever the TPC is it has changed due to age.
But I thought I would check. My assumptions cause me grief.

My manual says:
This vehicle may come with all-season tires. These tires are designed to provide good overall performance on most road surfaces and weather conditions. Original equipment tires designed to GM's specific tire performance criteria have a TPC specification code molded onto the sidewall. Original equipment all-season tires can be identified by the last two characters of this TPC code, which will be “MS.”

I dunno it sounds a bit like nonsense to me. GM vehicles aren't special or different from any other when it comes to tires.

OK I read a bit more into it, and one particular tire model will get the contract to supply all new vehicles so it gets the stamp. It's stupid and you can ignore it.
