Pictured is the Rubber Bumper on The A frame of my 2007 2500. Both side look like this and I believe this is the cause of mt intermittent shimmy.
As You can see its in horrible condition. Are these replaceable ?
Thanks Fellows, I did not know what they were called. Now that I do I will dig around the internet and see what comes up. Will update when I find something.
Its the lack of bump stop thats the issue. Mine are totally disintegrated, therefore there is nothing to absorb certain road conditions. The shimmy occurs on some road surfaces that are not smooth, it happens mostly under washboardy road surfaces. My front shocks are high end Gabriel and only 2 years old. There is no slack in other component that I can detect. I mentioned this issue to an experienced mechanic and the bump stocks were the first thing He mentioned.
Problem Solved. I purchased new Bump Stops at Auto Zone [$36.55 for a pair] and have just installed them. Very, very easy to install. Just pop the old ones out with a screw driver and push the new ones in with same screw driver. I took vehicle for a short drive and notice right away that I could not feel the road surface in the steering wheel. I will know more tomorrow on my commute to work, 30 miles each way.
